Xocoyotzin Herrera is an ethnomusicologist who specializes in traditional Mexican music and teaches in the Department of Chicano Studies at California State University Northridge. A multi-instrumentalist, in addition he is a harpist and lead vocalist of the internationally renowned Conjunto Hueyapan (traditional music of Veracruz, Mexico) with whom he has recorded extensively and has performed in concert halls such as the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Los Angeles Music Center, the Hollywood Bowl, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles among others. He has also played with the legendary groups, Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano and Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernandez with whom he has toured throughout the United States, Mexico, Spain, China and North Korea. Other performance credits include recordings for Walt Disney Records and with the Grammy Award winning Mexican rock band Jaguares. As a composer for Indart Music Publishing, his works have been featured in films and television programs such as Akeelah and the Bee (Lions Gate Films), Little Miss Sunshine (Fox Searchlight), The Shield (F/X Networks), Resurrection Blvd (Showtime), Malcolm in the Middle (Fox), Veronica Mars (UPN), The Unit (CBS) and many others.
